I have uploaded a selection of 'Avatars'. If you are not sure what they are all about, see the help topic on Avatars in 'Forum Help' (in the 'User Profile' section): http://www.dsvc.co.uk/forumhelp/forumhelp1.html. Click on 'Return to Forum' at the top of the help page to return here.
If you click on 'Profile' at the top of the Forum page and scroll to the bottom of your settings list, in the Avatar section you will find a 'Show Gallery' button.
If you click it, you will be presented with two Galleries: 'Organ Alley Cats', containing a few of the old 'Top Cat' cartoon characters...with the exception of Top Cat himself, as I have pinched it already! and 'Organs and Steam', containing a selection of Organs and a few Steam/Fairground images.

The Organ Alley website is still 'under construction', hopefully with more pictures.
If you are using a Dial-Up connection, the home page will take some time to load, mainly because of an MP3 audio file which plays 'Organ Alley sounds' in the background (the same applies for the GDSF page).
I will try and make the file smaller to speed up loading, although after you have loaded the Home Page once, it should be saved in your Internet Browser 'Cache', to speed up loading next time.
I will let you know when I have uploaded the next batch of modifications.
Best Regards,
Dave (Admin) |

Posted: Fri Jul 07, 2006 9:52 pm Post subject: New Photo Upload Facility |
|
|
Well, as you may have gathered from the posts above this one that I have added a picture upload facility.
I will be updating the Forum Help file to explain the use of the 'Upload Picture' facility, but I am sure that you will have figured it out by then!
When you post a new message, you should see a new button on the posting form called 'Upload Picture'.
This launches the Uploader in a new window.
The uploader takes a picture file from your PC and resizes it, if required. It then saves it in a folder on the Organ Alley web site and inserts it (via a [IMG] BBCode) into your post.
Note that pictures are restricted in size to 450 by 450 pixels. This is for three reasons:
1. To limit the amount of space used on the web server.
2. To ensure that upload and download times are as short as possible.
3. To prevent the frames of the forum window from 'breaking'!
DO NOT attempt to upload a huge 1 megabyte image, as the image resizing program will not handle it and you will be left with a blank Imaging window! I have not determined what the maximum upload size is as yet.
Please ensure that there are no copyright issues with your picture postings!
Have fun,
Dave |

|
|
I have added a Member Ranking scheme, based on how many posts you have made. It is essentially the wedding anniversary categories.
Bronze is 0-14 Posts
Crystal is 15-19
Platinum is 20-24
Silver is 25-39
Ruby is 40-49
Gold is 50-59
Diamond is 60 upwards
If anyone reaches 100 posts, I will send you a box of choccies!
If you can think of a better scheme, please let me know!
Regards, Dave |

|
|
I have updated the 'Forum Help' file with some more details.
The 'Visual Guide' now contains information about using the forum and how to use the registration process for new users.
There are details of uploading pictures and how to use Windows Paint to resize them if they are too large.
If you are using a 'Dial-Up' connection, it will take about 5 minutes to download all the images in the visual guide. Once downloaded, the images will be saved in your 'cache' and will appear quicker next time.
Regards, Dave |

Ah yes, but as a site Moderator I will simply 'Moderate' them!
Although it would be interesting to see what people could 'make up' to clock up their post count!

I have modified the picture viewing capabilities on the Forum.
Images will be resized to a maximum size of 625 x 625 pixels (it was 450 x 450).
You are still limited to a maximum upload size of 1024 x 768...That's one I will have to think about!
