Hi Dave.
Perhaps we should explain to Genuine Posters on this Public Forum the reason for your change of wording in the title of the Public Forum.
We have been getting unwelcome posts on the Public Forum from people selling medicines and software which have nothing in common with our interests and it is becoming a full time job deleting them, this action does not seem to have deterred the more determined of the miscreants and as a consequence it may result in loosing the facility for genuine people.
Regards

I have added a modification to the Public Forum, which SHOULD block automated SPAM sent by a 'SpamBot'.
If you make a post as a Guest, you have to select 'Yes' in a dropdown box before the post will be submitted to the Forum.
If the Spammer is human, then they will do this anyway, but if it is automatic spam, this should block it.
I am determined to keep the Public Forum accessible to Guests.
Another modification has been to remove the Website address from the new registration form.
Once a user has been activated, they can add a web address in their profile.
Hopefully, this will also prevent automated spammers from registering and also prevent them from giving a link to an advertising site...or worse!
Fingers crossed,
Dave |

...Well that worked really well
...I still got numerous spam posts on the Public Forum and one registration - but at least that doesn't show their web address anymore!
So the latest modification is a Spam Word blocker which prevents guest postings if a banned 'Spam Word' is used in the post.
I suppose it's only a matter of time before they reword everything to bypass the word list..I will just have to try and keep it updated!
Regards,
Dave |
